Historic announcement

On the 20th February 2016, the Prime Minister David Cameron made a historic announcement, that the UK will vote on whether to remain in the EU on Thursday 23 June 2016. He said he would be campaigning to remain in a reformed EU – and described the vote as one of the biggest decisions “in our lifetimes”.

And so it will be. The people of Chichester now get to take part in the most momentous potential constitutional reforms of our lifetimes.

At UKIP we hope that you will seize the day and Vote Leave.

The backdrop has been set. Against a seemingly pathetic attempt at reform in Brussels, which achieved virtually nothing, Cameron sticks true to the EU dream and will campagin to remain.

Mr Cameron had originally wanted a complete ban on migrants sending child benefit abroad but had to compromise after some eastern European states rejected that and also insisted that existing claimants should continue to receive the full payment. Quite frankly, the site of a British Prime Minister grovelling for tiny concessions from our European partners, was humiliating both to him and to the British people. Time and time again he promises little, and delivers even less, and the cries of Britain fall on deaf ears. No wonder they are calling it the Great British #CamScam!

In the year of the General Election 2015, numerous polls indicated that immigration was either the second or primary concern among the British public. And look at how the Tories get it wrong time and time again.

The recently published ONS statistics of immigration for 2015 were 260,000, but 650,000 National Insurance number registrations were processed over the same period. The facts are simple, Cameron has no grip on migration, and no British Government will ever be able to control migration while a member of the EU.

Every extra migrant entering the Chichester area will be directly competing with ordinary local people for work, places at schools, and hospital beds. We can already see how nearby Bognor Regis has been transformed, in just a decade, to an Eastern European satellite town within Sussex. This is not xeonpohiba but just common-sense. We never could cope with the scale of this migration in to our region, and nothing in the future promises it will improve.

In 2015 Europe witnessed the most serious influx of uncontrolled migration since World War II. Among these people there will no doubt be genuine humanitarian individuals seeking refuge from the tragedy of war in Syria. But the fact remains that the nature of the migration will inevitably mean criminal and terrorist elements would have also easily passed over our porous EU border with Turkey and the Middle East.

In just a few years the worst elements of this uncontrolled migration will be elgibile to live in Chichester if we remain within the EU.

This and many other issues are why there is now a strong cross-party coalition banding together to support leaving the EU. Grassroots Out is an excellent example of such a grouping. This group has got the Establishment scared.

Notable figures within the Conservative party against the EU include the Secretary for Justice, Michael Gove, Employment Minister, Priti Patel and London Mayor, Boris Johnson. Just today Michael Howard joined the #Brexit campaign.

The EU was “outdated, flawed and failing” and an Out vote would force its leaders to think again.

Over the coming months we expect more and more senior figures will come out and protest against the EU. No doubt you will be told how ‘big business’ backs the EU. But corporations need their cheap labour to line the pockets of their shareholders.

At UKIP Chichester we plan to campagin vigorously to leave the EU and we are rightly proud that our party’s relentless two decades of campaigning have brought us to this momentus time in history. Over the coming months we plan to post more details on this site about the campaign and it how it affects the people in Chichester and surrounding areas.

We hope that you will join with us and Vote Leave on 23rd June 2016.

Everything you need to know about voting.
